Years of fun together - 20

We are New Orleans natives with an unquenchable thirst for travel and adventure. Unsatisfied with the limited travel allowed during our minimal vacation time, and even though most New Orleanians do not move from NOLA, in 2008 we moved to the San Francisco Bay area to explore Northern California. This experience, and our unwillingness to wait for retirement, have convinced us to feed our souls now and travel the world. This is the story of our adventures. Y'all come along for the ride!

Travel history.
I'm sure virtually everyone is wondering "how did they decide to do this?". Well, it was more of a process............

Both of us love to travel. I had previously traveled to Western Europe, Russia, the Caribbean, and all over the United States. Phyllis had traveled in the Caribbean and around the Southeast United States. Our first vacation together was in 1994, to the Grand Canyon. The intervening years were filled with school, work, poverty, and raising our son, Connor. We had no money for vacations but managed to spend time each summer on the beautiful beaches of Florida. We took our first big vacation in 2001, when we joined a group of 6, family members and friends, on an sailing excursion in the Mediterranean off the coast of Greece. Voila! Phyllis loved Europe as much as I.

Not long after, we were then in a position with our finances, jobs and vacation time to take one big vacation to Europre each year. Because we both despised group tours and being held to someone else's schedule, I plan all of our trips and we usually rent a car and make our own way. This adds to our fun and sense of adventure.

In September 2004 we traveled for 2 weeks to Northern Italy, landing in Milan, renting a car and making a loop across Tuscany to Venice. In January 2006, New Year's Eve, we spent a week in Paris with Connor joining us. In May 2007 we traveled to Austria, Switzerland and Germany; and in March 2008 we visited Holland, Czech Republic (Prague) and Rome.

During these same years we also traveled around the United States visiting Vermont, Southern Utah, Vegas, Arizona, Atlanta, Florida and California. In May 2005 we vacationed in Northern California and fell in love with the beauty and climate. We had never really discussed moving out of New Orleans but after our San Francisco trip, began to discuss the possibility of moving to the Bay area after Connor graduated from high school and went to college.

These contemplations became reality when, in July 2008, we moved to Pleasanton, California, just southeast of San Francisco. We began to make weekend trips all around the area: Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Simeon, Bodega Bay, Napa, Sonoma, Calavares County, Yosemite, Los Angeles, and Crater Lake in Southern Oregon.

Now we want more!!
